Texting while driving banned in Iowa

Posted on July 13th, 2010 No Comments

Starting July 1, texting while driving is now against the law. Although the law has gone into effect, drivers will have a year before fines will be given to people who are caught texting while driving.

After the year period, there will be a $30 fine for people who are found breaking the law. This law bans anyone under 18 to use any electronic device while driving, including IPods and any cell phone use. Adults may talk on the phone, but texting is not allowed.

Also, a person can not be pulled over for texting, it must be a secondary reason. If a person is pulled over for speeding or another driving infraction, and if the police officer can prove that he or she was texting, a citation can be given.
