More speeding traffic cameras may be used in Iowa

Posted on July 27th, 2010 No Comments

Radar-enabled traffic cameras may be added to more city streets and even interstates in order to reduce the amount of drivers that speed.

Currently, Iowa is one of 10 states and the District of Columbia, that are using the cameras to catch speeders and mail them a citation. These cameras do not come without controversy. Some people think that the government only installs the cameras as a way to raise revenue.

Others feel that the pictures are against their civil rights because the cameras can not accurately tell who is driving. Fifteen states have banned the cameras. In Iowa, three more cameras will be installed on a busy section of I-380 and Des Moines is planning to install cameras on Interstate 235 as well.
