3 dead in crash between school bus and car

A fatal crash between a car and a school bus killed three people near Louisa-Muscatine High School, Thursday morning.

Reports from the Iowa State Patrol stated that a car was heading north on U.S. 61, south of Muscatine, when it lost control on the icy road and crossed the center line, causing it to slam head-on with an oncoming school bus. All three people in the car, Katherine Newton, Barbara Higgs, and Mark Kaltefleiter, instantly died in the crash. Te bus driver, who survived, was brought to Trinity Hospital in Muscatine.

Louisa-Muscatine School superintendent Mike Van Sickle said he was relieved when he learned that there were no students in the school bus when the crash happened, but was thinking of the bus driver and those related to the people in the other vehicle.

Experiencing the sudden loss of a family member or loved one can be extremely difficult and painful, and our condolences of the legal team at LaMarca Law Group, P.C., go out to all those grieving after this accident.
