615k Sienna minivans with potential transmission issue recalled
At least 615,000 recent models of Toyota Sienna minivans were recalled due to a potential malfunction in the transmission that may cause the vehicle to roll away, a report stated on Thursday, September 26.
In the recall, the 2004-2005 and 2007-2009 Sienna minivan models may roll away if the shift lock solenoid is damaged and the lever moves out from the “Park” position by itself. At least 21 accidents and two injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
According to a Toyota spokesperson, the shift lever still needs to be moved in order to put it out of the “Park” mode. Owners of the recalled Siennas should have their dealer install a new shift lock solenoid.
