Driver hits car and pedestrian
In downtown Iowa City, a driver caused an accident with another vehicle and struck a pedestrian when driving distracted, according to police.
A 19-year-old female was driving a 2005 Lexus southbound on Gilbert Street when she collided with another vehicle after running a red light. After the collision, the woman continued driving and then struck a pedestrian who was crossing a crosswalk.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was cited with failure to obey a traffic sign.
Car accidents can happen very suddenly and can seriously injure those involved, especially if a driver is not paying attention. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family.
