Iowa plans to step up drunk driving enforcement during Labor Day holiday
Police agencies across the state of Iowa are going to be cracking down on drunk driving during the Labor Day holiday.
The campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” began last Thursday and will run through Labor Day weekend. Officers will have the most patrols out on nights and weekends because this is the most common times that people are driving impaired.
In 2009, there were 371 fatal crashes in Iowa and 96 of them were alcohol-related. A high percentage of motorists are between the age group 21-24. During this time last year when similar enforcement was done, there were seven fatal crashes and two of them involved drunk drivers.
