Pedestrian dies from injuries after Des Moines accident

A pedestrian accident that occurred on January 1, 2012 in Des Moines left one man severely injured and he eventually succumbed to those injuries one week later.

The pedestrian, an 80-year-old Des Moines man, was crossing the street near Ingersoll Avenue and 35th Street when he was hit by an oncoming car. The vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old Des Moines woman who, according to police, did everything right in herĀ  maneuver. She turned left onto the street where the pedestrian was, but the sun was so bright that she was unable to see the man. She stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated with authorities.

The man was still conscious when police arrived on the scene but he had forgotten the events that had just taken place. He was transported to a hospital in the area and one week later he passed away from the injuries sustained in the accident.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this time.
