School bus accident leaves 5 hurt
A school bus belonging to the Southeast Polk School District in Des Moines was involved in a hit-and-run accident early this morning.
Around 7 a.m. the bus, filled with school children, was stopped at a light when a car struck it from behind. The car fled from the scene of the accident. A second car also slammed into the back of the school bus before police and emergency crews were able to arrive at the scene.
There were four students and one student aide injured in the accident. The students’ ages all vary, according to police, but none are older than 16. They were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their minor injuries. An investigation into the accident is underway.
