Tesla cars under safety investigation
After several incidents of Tesla car fires, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching an official investigation to examine the safety of the vehicles.
According to USA TODAY, the NHTSA investigation was ordered when three Tesla Model S vehicles caught fire after the car battery was damaged. The agency credited the cars sufficient warning devices for its occupants escaping without sustaining any injuries.
Though the investigation may eventually lead to a recall, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, is currently resisting the issuing of a recall. Instead, he proposed steps to further improve the safety of the electric cars.
Recently, Tesla stocks have dropped sharply. Experts speculate that these recent car fires play a large role in the plummeting of Tesla stocks.
