1 dead, 1 injured in Mason City accident

One person was killed in Mason City after a car and a motorcycle had a collision, a June 17 article of Globe Gazette reported.

According to the information provided by Mason City Police, a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster and a 2005 Toyota Corolla had a collision at the intersection of Eighth Street Northwest and Pierce Avenue. The motorcycle operator, identified as a 51-year-old male, was heading north on Pierce Avenue when he collided with the vehicle, driven by a 74-year-old woman who had turned left on Pierce Ave. from Eighth Street.

The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead after being treated at a hospital, while the woman received medical attention at the crash scene and was later discharged. Traffic flow along Pierce Avenue was interrupted while responding Mason City personnel worked on the crash scene. Police reported that they are still investigating the fatal incident.



Suspected drunk driver involved in fatal crash busted again in Iowa

A driver awaiting trial in connection to a November drunk driving accident that killed two people in Des Moines was recently apprehended for an OWI, a June 17 article of Radio Iowa stated.

A sheriff in Lucas County told reports that a 53-year-old woman on Friday, June 10 was apprehended by deputies in a traffic stop in Chariton. Authorities administered the Des Moines woman a preliminary breath test and discovered that her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.112 percent. The same apprehended woman is facing charges due to her involvement in a November 17 crash that killed a 59-year-old man and a 60-year-old man. The woman was believed to be driving while under the influence of intoxicants when that accident took place as well. The arrested woman is scheduled for a court hearing on September 12.

Motorcyclist injured in Altoona hit-and-run accident

A motorcyclist recently sustained serious injuries after he was involved in an accident in Altoona, an article of The Des Moines Register reported on June 6.

According to police reports, a motorcycle and pickup truck collided at 14th Street Southeast and Eighth Street Southeast on June 3. The collision reportedly occurred after 51-year-old motorcyclist Wayne Patterson was heading west on Eighth Street and struck the truck coming from 14th Street. The collision caused Patterson to be ejected from his bike. Police confirmed the motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries. Police later learned that the pickup driver, who fled the scene of the accident, failed to yield to Patterson before the collision took place. As of reporting, Altoona Police were looking for a man whose vehicle might have some significant damages from the crash.
