Around 2 a.m. Friday morning, a Cedar Rapids woman was arrested after she was accused of drunk driving, and holding two passengers against their will. The 26-year-old was driving her minivan in Iowa City when she offered two men a ride.
The men obliged, and entered the vehicle, agreeing to pay a certain amount to the woman for supplying the transportation. But, an argument surrounding the method of payment broke out when the men were at their destination. The driver decided to abruptly leave the area, with the passengers still inside her car.
She was entering Interstate 80 in Iowa City when the men feared for their lives, and jumped from the moving vehicle. The driver continued traveling west until she was pulled over by police. She was subsequently arrested, and charged with intoxicated driving, and false imprisonment. Her bond was set at $6,000.

On June 17, a 50-year-old Iowa City woman drank at a local bar before getting behind the wheel to drive one of her friends home. She was driving a 44-year-old woman home, and when they arrived at her residence, the two women became engaged in an argument.
As a result of the argument, the Iowa City driver pushed the woman to the ground, and proceeded to get into her vehicle, and run over the woman on the ground. The impact of the collision claimed the life of the 44-year-old woman.
Police arrived on the scene, and arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This is her second OWI charge, as she received one back in 2006. An investigation into the accident is still ongoing.

A study conducted by French researchers has found a connection between sleepy drivers and an elevated risk for car accidents.
Data was gathered from 700 different drivers who had to stay in a hospital due to a car accident for at least one day. The results indicated that drivers who felt sleepy, and drivers who were intoxicated were twice as likely to cause a car accident than those drivers who felt awake, and were sober.
Police also determined that roughly half of those that were studied were responsible for the car accidents that left them with injuries. The findings from this study are featured in “Archives of Internal Medicine.”
