Police officer rolls over woman in Des Moines

Around 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Des Moines, a police officer accidentally ran over a woman’s legs near 10th Street and Stone Lane.

The Des Moines Police Department had received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a woman who was apparently lying in the middle of an alley. A police officer responded to the call, but did not notice the woman until his patrol car had rolled over both of her legs.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, but only sustained minor injuries. Police have revealed that the woman was intoxicated at the time of the incident, and that the case is still under investigation.

Pedestrian accident kills 1 in Clear Lake

Last Tuesday in Clear Lake, a 73-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a truck. The pedestrian accident occurred in the morning near the intersection of Fourth Street and Main Avenue.

An 87-year-old truck driver was driving southbound through the intersection when his car made contact with the pedestrian. Numerous bystanders rushed to the woman’s aid while paramedics were on their way. According to the police, the elderly pedestrian had severe brain damage from the accident.

She was taken to a Clear Lake hospital, and she was in critical condition before she passed away. Police are investigating the accident, but at this time no charges have been filed.

 



Iowa City man killed in pedestrian accident

An Iowa City man was killed in a pedestrian accident after he stepped in front of a semi-truck last week.

According to Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred on Interstate 380 near North Liberty when he stepped out of  a parked vehicle on the shoulder of the lane and into oncoming traffic.

The truck driver slammed on the brakes and tried to swerve out of the way, but was unable to stop in time. The 55-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly after. Police are still investigating the accident at this time.

U.S Postal Service worker injured after struck by van

A letter carrier working for the U.S. Postal Service was struck by a mini van near Davenport.

The 52-year-old man was transported to the University Hospitals in Iowa City by helicopter with life threatening injuries after the accident.

The accident occurred around 12:23 p.m. on West 3rd Street as the man walked across the street to deliver the mail in his mail route. The crash is still currently under investigation by the Davenport Police Unit.

ISU student killed in pedestrian accident

A student from Iowa State University was killed after being involved in a pedestrian accident near Jack Trice Stadium after the football game on Saturday.

The 21-year-old junior was walking across South 16th Street around 10 p.m. when he was hit by a 22-year-old student driving westbound down the roadway. The pedestrian was on his way back to his car after the game.

Officials have said that speeding and alcohol were not factors in the crash, but it happened so quickly that the driver did not have time to react.

Two University of Iowa students struck by vehicle

Two students at the University of Iowa were stuck by a car on August 27. Both of the students are 19 years of age and sophomores at the University.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Governor Street and College Street around midnight when they were struck by a car driven by a 28-year-old woman. The two students were found unconscious at the scene and were rushed to the University hospital.

The male student has been released and the female student is still be treated for her injuries, but is improving, according to officials. According to Iowa Code, the students had the right-of-way and were crossing the street legally.

Iowa teenager in custody after pedestrian car accident

A teenager from Iowa was arrested after he struck three people in a pedestrian accident.

The accident occurred on 2nd Street and 14th Avenue when the 16-year-old attempted to make a turn on to 2nd street and struck the pedestrians as they crossed the street.

The teen then drove away from the scene. Police later caught him driving on Highway 52. The three pedestrians were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police believe that the teen may have been distracted by a cell phone when the accident occurred.

Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Cedar Rapids

Police in Cedar Rapids, Iowa are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman who was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident.

The woman was struck by a car driven by 33-year-old man in the early morning hours of June 25. The driver did not stop at first, but did return to the scene to speak to investigators.

Police are trying to determine where the woman had been earlier in the evening to help decide why she had been standing in the middle of the roadway.

Davenport woman killed in pedestrian accident

According to police, a Davenport woman was killed in East Moline in a car-pedestrian accident Saturday, May 15, around midnight.

While crossing Avenue of the Cities without the benefit of a crosswalk or traffic light, the woman tripped and fell to the road. Oncoming traffic was unable to stop and the woman was also unable to move out of the way.

The woman suffered severe injuries to her chest, neck, and head, and died at the scene.
