Police investigate single-vehicle car accident

Police are continuing to investigate a single-car accident that occurred in Sac County and injured one man.

According to police, the accident occurred on Friday night as the 44-year-old man was driving a Buick down Highway D-54 when he lost control after rounding a curve.

The vehicle then went into a ditch before striking a concrete culvert and coming to a stop. The man was extricated by the Jaws of Life and transported to Stewart Memorial Hospital to be treated. Blood was drawn from the man in order to test for drug or alcohol abuse.

Driver hits car and pedestrian

In downtown Iowa City, a driver caused an accident with another vehicle and struck a pedestrian when driving distracted, according to police.

A 19-year-old female was driving a 2005 Lexus southbound on Gilbert Street when she collided with another vehicle after running a red light. After the collision, the woman continued driving and then struck a pedestrian who was crossing a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The woman was cited with failure to obey a traffic sign.
