Suspected drunk driver involved in fatal crash busted again in Iowa

A driver awaiting trial in connection to a November drunk driving accident that killed two people in Des Moines was recently apprehended for an OWI, a June 17 article of Radio Iowa stated.

A sheriff in Lucas County told reports that a 53-year-old woman on Friday, June 10 was apprehended by deputies in a traffic stop in Chariton. Authorities administered the Des Moines woman a preliminary breath test and discovered that her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.112 percent. The same apprehended woman is facing charges due to her involvement in a November 17 crash that killed a 59-year-old man and a 60-year-old man. The woman was believed to be driving while under the influence of intoxicants when that accident took place as well. The arrested woman is scheduled for a court hearing on September 12.

Woman facing charges for Iowa drunk driving hit-and-run accident

A female driver who was suspected of being involved in a pedestrian accident in June is facing several charges, including a drunk driving charge, the Washington Times reported on July 18.

Reports said the Estherville female driver allegedly struck a 57-year-old pedestrian on June 20. According to police, the female driver initially drove away from the crash scene. Though the driver returned with another person who called authorities and attempted to give aid to the victim, who was laying on the ground, the female driver once again left the scene without speaking to the police. A felony DUI and other charges related to the incident were filed against the woman after authorities confiscated her vehicle to be used for evidence.

Drunk driver sentenced to 55 years in jail after deadly accident

A jail sentence of 55 years was given to a man who was recently found guilty of crashing a vehicle last year while intoxicated, resulting in the deaths of two men and injury of one person, KWQC reported on May 21.

The 24-year-old male vehicle driver was found guilty of intoxicated driving in April in regards to the September 28, 2014 accident in which three people in the vehicle he struck were killed. The driver was using excessive speed and had a blood alcohol level two times greater than the allowed limit. Though the lone crash survivor is continuing to recover from his injuries, he stated that he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. In the sentencing, the driver received 25 years each for the two vehicular homicide charges and another five years for inflicting serious injuries to a person.
