Teenage sisters killed in car crash

On Saturday, January 25, two teenagers were killed in a two-vehicle accident east of Crystal Lake, according to reports from the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities responded to a fatal crash that happened at around 11 a.m. on B14 and Maple Avenue. According to reports, the eastbound vehicle driven by Tiffany Banta, 19, slammed into an oncoming vehicle after it lost control and veered into the opposite lane. Tiffany and her sister Chyann, 15, who was also in the vehicle, both died instantly from the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was not hurt in the crash, was identified as 68-year-old Steven Hanna.



Actor Paul Walker killed in high speed crash

Movie star Paul Walker died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, November 30.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal car crash happened in Santa Clarita. The 40-year-old star of The Fast and the Furious was a passenger of a speeding red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, driven by his friend Roger Rodas. The vehicle burst into flames after crashing into a utility pole.

The accident is currently under investigation, according to Deputy Mark Pope, and the speed of the vehicle before it crashed is yet to be determined.



5 dead in Memorial Day weekend crashes

Five people were killed in five separate crashes in Iowa on Memorial Day weekend. Four of the fatal accidents occurred on May 24 and another occurred on May 26.

Chloe Estes, 13, died in an accident that caused other passengers to be injured after their van lost control and rolled into a wooded area at around 2 p.m. on May 24. That same day, Allyson Merry, 18, was killed after her vehicle slammed into another vehicle when it crossed the median lane on the Iowa Highway around 9 p.m. Sadly, Derrick Rensink, 24, and Keith Beck, 56, also lost their lives on Friday after their vehicle lost control in a separate crash.

On May 26, Jorge Santoyo, 26, tragically lost his life after his vehicle was involved in a three-vehicle accident.

1 dead after a car and ambulance crash head on

One person died of fatal injuries after his vehicle crashed head-on into an ambulance in Davenport on April 11.

A witness who saw the crash said it would be a miracle if the person driving the car survived after seeing how the car went almost underneath the ambulance. According to police who responded to the scene, the accident occurred on Kimberly Road at around 7 a.m. when a car slammed into an ambulance after it crossed the center lane.

The unidentified driver of the car later died after he was brought to the hospital by responding paramedics. The ambulance which contained two medics and a patient was not hurt in the accident.

Kimberly Road was temporarily closed while authorities investigated the accident scene.



2 killed in late Saturday night crash

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle car crash that happened near Solon on the night of March 23.

Reports from the Iowa State Patrol show that 46-year-old Jeffrey Bertucci struck the passenger side of a vehicle driven by 68-year-old Wilbur Bigler, who was then heading southbound on Highway 1 near 120th Street at around 9 p.m. Bigler and one of Bertucci’s passengers, identified as Madison Hubert, 18, died after sustaining critical injuries from the crash. Other passengers inside Bertucci’s vehicle were brought to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The Iowa State Patrol said the fatal accident is still being investigated.
