At least 32 people in Iowa suffered injuries in a recent string of accidents that involved several vehicles, including a semitrailer truck, a May 9 article of The Des Moines Register reported.
According to reports, on May 8 several vehicular accidents happened in traffic on Interstate Highway 80. A particularly damaging one involved six vehicles. A truck operator who witnessed a series of collisions involving another semi-truck believed that the truck driver who caused the crash failed to step on the brakes. The truck apparently went up in flames and other vehicles, including trucks and a bus, were damaged. The 32 injured people were transported to different hospitals; one of them was airlifted. Despite all of the accidents and injuries, authorities reported that no one was killed.

On Friday night near the intersection of Bloomfield and Meadow Chase Lane in Des Moines, a motor vehicle crashed into a motorcycle, causing severe injuries to the motorcyclist.
The driver of the motor vehicle was traveling south, when he attempted to turn left. During the turn, he slammed head-on into an oncoming motorcyclist, who was northbound. The motorcycle’s headlights were not turned on, and police believe this is why the driver was unaware of it’s presence.
The motorcyclist was also not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and consequently suffered serious injuries. Doctors do believe that the motorcyclist will be able to recover from his injuries, but he currently still remains hospitalized.

An inch of snow flurries that fell Sunday evening caused numerous crashes to occur on I-74 in Iowa.
A nine car pile-up was the largest of the collisions and took place near the Mississippi River bridge. Police that responded to the scene estimate that 10 people suffered injuries in the accidents. Head, back, and neck injuries were reported, but the severity of those injuries were unclear.
Numerous other car accidents happened all over the lanes of Interstate 74. Police were responding to different collision sites until around 9:30 p.m., when the calls began to slow in number. Coincidentally, that is when the snowstorm stopped as well. Police are urging Iowa drivers to proceed with caution in the coming days due to winter weather advisories in different areas.
