Head-on accident injures 6 teens in Schaller

A head-on accident in Schaller, Iowa, sent six teenagers to the hospital to be treated for injuries they sustained in the collision.

The accident, which took place on Saturday, was caused by a 15-year-old driver who crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motor vehicle with a 16-year-old driver behind the wheel. The 15-year-old had four teenage passengers, and all six of the teenagers involved in the accident received injuries.

The County Sheriff stated that a large amount of dust on the road was the reason behind the collision. However, the 15-year-old driver was only driving with a learner’s permit and therefore was charged with a violation of a restricted license.

Des Moines rollover accident sends 2 to hospital

Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after they were involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident.

The accident occurred on the south side of Des Moines near the intersection of Fleur Drive and Watrous Avenue. Once paramedics and police arrived on the scene, the two individuals involved were taken to a local hospital to be treated. They were both conscious while they were leaving the scene of the accident.

According to police, an investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the rollover accident. There is no more information available at this time, and no charges have been filed.

Iowa City driver charged with OWI in fatal crash

On June 17, a 50-year-old Iowa City woman drank at a local bar before getting behind the wheel to drive one of her friends home. She was driving a 44-year-old woman home, and when they arrived at her residence, the two women became engaged in an argument.

As a result of the argument, the Iowa City driver pushed the woman to the ground, and proceeded to get into her vehicle, and run over the woman on the ground. The impact of the collision claimed the life of the 44-year-old woman.

Police arrived on the scene, and arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This is her second OWI charge, as she received one back in 2006. An investigation into the accident is still ongoing.

4 traffic fatalities occur in Iowa over the weekend

Over the weekend, four fatalities took place due to traffic accidents throughout the state of Iowa.

An elderly couple in Boone were killed in a car accident on U.S. 30 when the driver of their vehicle, the couple’s 15-year-old grandson, came in contact with a limo on the highway. The 80-year-old man was ejected from the vehicle. Both him and his wife were pronounced dead at the scene. A person inside the limo was taken to a nearby hospital, and is currently in critical condition.

Two people lost their lives in separate single-vehicle accidents. In both of the accidents, the drivers lost control of their vehicles. The Iowa Department of Transportation revealed that, as of Friday, there have been 161 traffic fatalities in Iowa.

Des Moines police officer causes accident

A 28-year-old Des Moines police officer has been arrested in regards to the second traffic accident he caused while working for the Des Moines Police Department.

On Tuesday around 1 a.m. in the morning, the police officer allegedly crashed his patrol car. He was near the 3800 block of East Ovid Avenue. According to reports, the officer did not call for help until he was three miles away from the scene of the accident, attempting to cover up the crash.

His story did not match the marks on his vehicle, and after an investigation by responding officers, illegal drug paraphernalia was found. The officer was arrested and charged with a traffic offense and drug possession.

Waterloo police officer injured in car accident

On Sunday afternoon in Waterloo, Iowa, a three-vehicle accident injured a police officer as well as one other person.

The accident occurred near an intersection around 4:45 p.m. and involved a Waterloo squad car. The police officer’s car was marked, and the police officer sustained injuries in the accident. One of the other two drivers was also injured in the collision. The injuries are all believed to be minor.

Bad driving conditions send three to hospital in Iowa

On Saturday night in Auburn, Iowa a car accident took place which resulted in three people sustaining injuries.

The poor driving conditions, including ice and snow, caused a 27-year-old Carroll man to lose control of his truck. The truck crossed over the center lane and struck another car. There were two people in the second car, a 46-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy.

The jaws of life had to be used to extract the 46-year-old man from his vehicle and once he was removed he was transported by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital. The 13-year-old and the 27-year-old were treated for minor injuries.
