Drunk driver crashes car into river

Linn County Sheriff’s deputies report that early Wednesday morning they found a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix crashed into the river at the 3500 block of Ellis Road in Cedar Rapids.

Police arrived on the scene around 1 a.m. to find the car abandoned. They were able to determine the owner’s identity from the vehicle registration and locate the 23-year-old driver and her 23-year-old friend nearby, intoxicated in public.

According to the women, they were in the car when the driver lost control of the vehicle, sending it careening off of the road. The car rolled over and slid down an embankment into the river.

While police were unable to determine who was driving, since both women were drunk it is clearly a case of drunk driving.

Luckily, neither of the women were injured in the accident. This is not always the case when it comes to drunken drivers.
